The Münster Leprosy Hospital was situated roughly 2.5 miles north of the old town. It was founded in 1333 and gave the later city district its name 'Kinderhaus'. In the historical grounds around the building, the Leprosy Museum shows visitors how lepers lived and how they were cared for in the Middle Ages and modern times. The museum's exhibition draws attention to the issue of social exclusion of the sick then and now.
