Porcelainmuseum in the Gatehouse Gallery

The association for the promotion of a porcelain museum in Münster was established on June 27, 2001 in the Kinderhaus Local Heritage Museum in order to review the history of porcelain painting in Münster and Westphalia between 1840 and 1990. During this period, there were 12 different porcelain painter's workshops in Münster alone; the most important one was run by August Roloff (1919-1955), a porcelain painter trained at Porzellanmanufaktur Fürstenberg. Furthermore, the association is also interested in the smaller workshops in Westphalia.

For more than eight years the development association was able to use rooms of the Steuerberaterverband Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V. at Gasselstiege. The association has been searching for a suitable facility to house a permanent exhibition since 2011. Without a permanent base, the association presents temporary exhibitions at various venues.

The inventory of the association and its members comprises several thousand exhibits. A number of exhibitions, also outside Münster, have demonstrated this fact in a convincing manner (Ochtrup Pottery Museum, Museum of Homburg Castle, Hiltrup Museum, and Liesborn Abbey Museum).
